Mark is a founding member of Kirkland Albrecht & Fredrickson LLC, and has 30 years of experience in public accounting. Mark is actively engaged in providing accounting and auditing, tax, and advisory services to his clients as a team leader. Additionally, he developed an interest in business valuation early in KAF’s history and consequently has become the partner in charge of KAF Business Valuation Services. Related to this discipline, he has held the CPA/ABV (accredited in business valuation) designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants since 2000.
For KAF’s first 18 years, Mark was also responsible for the firms Quality Control procedures, assuring firm compliance with existing auditing, accounting and reporting standards. During that time he was the Firm’s final authority on virtually every client financial statement reported on by the Firm. Through his diligent work, attention to detail and leadership, KAF has earned several “unqualified opinions” from peer reviews conducted on the Firm over those years.
In December, 2006 Mark was appointed by Governor Romney to serve the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a member of the Commonwealth’s Board of Public Accountancy. He was reappointed to a five year term on the Board by Governor Patrick in September, 2010. He proudly served the Board as Secretary in 2008 and as Chairman in 2009.
Mark’s passions outside of KAF include fitness, fitness events for charity and home improvement projects. A certified Spinning instructor and a 5 year veteran of the Pan Mass Challenge, he prepares for the 160+ mile bike ride each August by teaching Spinning classes year round at one of the largest health clubs south of Boston. With enthusiasm that can be described as contagious, his Spinning classes are often taught at capacity of 35 participants and often with a waiting list of participants hoping to get in. Highly skilled in many aspects of construction and woodworking, two of his home improvement projects have been featured on the websites of the companies supplying the materials.
Mark holds a BSBA Magna Cum Laude with a major in accounting from Suffolk University. He currently holds securities Series 6 and 66 licenses from the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mark is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.
