Cacique Youth Learning Center

Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA)
Boston, MA

At Kirkland Albrecht & Fredrickson we believe it is our duty to give back to the community.  Through our Core Values committee we select various charities that we can volunteer our time to make a difference.  Last fall (2005) we worked through the United Way of Massachusetts to participate in their Community Care Day.  KAF team members spent the day with the youth at the Cacique Youth Learning Center.  We worked with the children of the IBA and assisted the staff with various projects.  Our work at the school that day was memorable for the KAF team.  We definitely received much more than we gave that day.

KAF Team with the Cacique Staff

Cacique Youth Learning Center provides a coordinated approach to youth development in Villa Victoria. Emphasizing project-based experiential, interdisciplinary learning activities, the program helps youth develop their capacity to think critically, solve problems creatively, excel in school, and become civically engaged. Cacique empowers low-income youth, particularly Latinos, with the necessary opportunities, skills, and supports needed by youth to succeed in school and in their personal lives.  To learn more about this program please visit their website at www.iba-etc.org.

Robinson Spins for Area Families

Not only did KAF partner Mark Robinson spin for 3 hours to support the efforts of Lend A Hand but he also spent hours behind the scenes organizing the event. Over the last several years, Mark has developed a passion for Spinning, also referred to as indoor cycling.  As an active member of Weymouth Club, he participates in 2 to 3 one hour classes per week.  The classes are fun, they go by very quickly, and burn about 500 calories on average.

Mark worked with several friends, also spinning instructors, to organize the First annual Spinathon.  The Spinathon was held on Saturday, November 19, 2005 and featured a 3 hour ride.  The event’s main sponsor was KAF and each participant paid a fee to participate with the option to raise additional funds by seeking sponsorships. Mark was honored to present Lend A Hand with over $12,000 in donations!

Lend A Hand was chosen as the event’s beneficiary because it makes a difference on a local level, by funneling donations to four different community service agencies and because 100% of the donations raised reach families in need.

Congratulations Mark and to everyone who helped with the success of this event by spinning, instructing, organizing, or donating.  A special thank you to KAF’s Lisa Dodd and to the KAF Team who all reached into their pockets to help area families.

Thank you also to the following Instructors that participated and also helped with donations:

Michele Fay, Assistant Director of Group Exercise, Debbi Zeboski, Director of Group Exercise, Bill Grimes, Spinning Instructor, Donna Robinson, Spinning Instructor

Without these dedicated people the event would not have been successful!
